SuDatta by name means “Good Adoption.” Ms. Vidya Shankar and her husband confronted a few legal issues while processing papers on their child’s adoption in 1992. This triggered their thoughts on getting adoptive parents together in a mutually beneficial group.

Lack of awareness on many issues related to adoption cast the need for a support group that benefits adoptive families non-aligned to any adoption agency. SuDatta is a registered association that provides a platform for sharing and learning. Regular interface with adoption experts family meets, children’s get-togethers, mothers’ meets, picnics, besides contemporary topics on parenting and adoption concepts for parents and aspiring parents happen periodically

Ms. Vidya, an adoption counselor, often recounts positive experiences in conversations with children, where they freely expressed their thoughts on adoption in gatherings and answered queries from parents. Some of the older children have stepped forward to help the younger ones cope and understand the concept of adoption as they were adopted too!

The support group has reached its landmark while serving adoptive families, with over 500 members spread all over India.
